Residents have been receiving letters from Wollondilly Council which are somewhat confusingly worded and give the impression that their not very old houses or vacant land are about to be heritage listed.
Wollondilly Council is updating and amending it’s Heritage provisions in the 2011 LEP with a Planning Proposal which is on display and open for community consultation.
We queried Council and the response is at the bottom of this page. The red cross hatched area in the left column below “Current Heritage” shows that the Regional Park area is already lsted as “Yerranderie Conservation Heritage Area”. The right column show that this existing heritage will be extended well into the Burragorang Valley. Following discussions with Wollondilly Council, we understand that the proposed listing should not create any significant differences to property owners within the current zone of the Yerranderie Conservation Heritage Area.
The Yerranderie Heritage Conservation Area is described HERE in the current 2011 LEP Section which will be changed by the new planning proposal as per below.
From the Wollondilly Council Heritage Team
….. Yerranderie is located within the curtilage of two proposed heritage items – Burragorang Valley and Burragorang Valley Group. Both of these items share the same proposed curtilage.
The Burragorang Valley listing intends to provide protection to the natural landscape of the valley; while the Burragorang Valley Group listing intends to provide protection for surviving built elements and relics within the valley which demonstrate European settlement prior to the construction of Warragamba Dam. It is agreed that neither of these listings are likely to be directly applicable to your land…… the mapping of these listings could not be precise due to the vast expanse of the listings and large number of lots affected.
Potential removal of…. potentially Yerranderie as a whole, from the curtilage of these listings – noting the existing heritage protections already in place for Yerranderie, including the Yerranderie Heritage Conservation Area and listing/proposed listing of specific items – will be considered post public exhibition and prior to the finalisation of this planning proposal.
